The Last Luna. Chapter One

A Conversation with Grandpa.

It was a bright, sunny Saturday when Ms. Amelia Seal knocked on my door. I moaned.

"Get up, Miss Lynette.", she said.

I covered myself with my comforter. I don't like the idea of getting up now. I'm happy with my dream. I'm about to return to my fancy dream when Amelia pulled the curtain sideways. The light from the sun passed through the blue lace of my bed.

"Amelia, bring the curtains back! I'm dazzled!", I cried.

"The light is good for you, milady. But it's better to get up now, get dressed and-"

"Oh please, Amelia. Leave me alone! Please!", I begged.

"But your grandfather wants to talk to you.", Ms. Amelia said. She sat on the foot of my bed and sighed heavily.

I felt bad for shouting on her. I'm bad. I just scolded a 70-year old maiden who has grayish hair and in small height.

"Would you get up now?", she asked.

I removed my comforter out of my body. I gave her a sweet smile before I jumped out of my bed. I headed to my dark blue-violet bathroom. I opened the sink and washed my face. I dried it with a pink towel.

"Your dress is on your closet.", she said.

I peeked through the small opening on the door. She's right. A light, yellow dress was on the door of the closet. I opened the door, unsurprised to see my maid fixing my bed for me. I immediately pulled my nightshirt out of my small body and put the dress in replacement. I looked at Amelia. She nodded.

"A little comb can make you look perfect, dear.", she said as I sit in front of my dressing table.

That is what I love about her. Aside from making my favorite buttermilk bread, she also knew when to be strict and when to be gentle. She became and acted like my mother since my parents died on an accident when I was 10, 5 years ago.

"There you go.", she said. I smiled. I looked perfect.

I instantly stood up and headed to the main dining area on the ground floor.

"Morning Grandpa!", I greeted.

"GOOD morning to you, too. Have a seat.", he replied.

"So, what are we up to?", I asked while taking 2 buttermilk breads.

"What is the topic that we are to talk about?", he corrected.

"Ooops, sorry Grandpa.", I said sincerely after realizing what he meant.

"I am sorry.", he corrected. Again.

"Back to our topic.", he added.

"What is the matter?", I asked.

"Lynette.", he warned.

"Oh. What's the topic, Grandpa?", I asked again.

"That.",he simply replied.

"That what?", I asked innocently.

"Your improper behaviors, dear.", Ms. Amelia interrupted when she handed me my favorite black tea.

"What's wrong with my behavior?", I asked.

"Your behaviors and acts are not proper for a lady.", Grandpa answered.

"Are not? But, I'm just 15. I can still learn and practice and study and - "

"You made it to the point, Miss Lynette.", Amelia said.

"I did?", I asked. "I don't, well, I don't, I can't understand you. Both of you!"

"Calm down, dear." Honestly, Grandpa was on his SERIOUS-IS-MY-NAME face.

"Amelia, can you get us some newly bake cookies?", he asked. I knew he meant for Amelia to leave us alone.

Amelia nodded, then she silently headed to the kitchen. I stared at my tea.

"I'm going to send you on London", he said on a serious tone.

"Me? London? For what?", I asked.

"You are going to attend a three-year course on Lady Eve Academy. That's on the tip of London and for your information, that is an All Girls' Boarding School."

I forgot on how to close my mouth and blink my eyes in horror. I never heard him to talk on this scary manner and, hey. Grandfather doesn't want ordinary schools because he doesn't want me to leave his side. What the hell was happening in here?

"I thought you don't like ordinary schools, because you don't want me to stay away from you!", I cried.

"That's true. But that academy is not just ordinary. It can help you to be morelike a true lady. Like your mom. She's your idol, right?", he interrogated.

"Yes.", I answered. But not on that part. I idolize mom because she's so patient, kind, beautiful, smart, and perfect when she was raising me as a child.

"Then study there. I want you to be a great person someday. I know you can. Through their guidance.", he persuaded.

"But I can learn with YOUR guidance. And Amelia's. I want here, Grandpa. I don't want to leave you. You're the onlyt realative i have. I can't afford to stay far from you.", I said emotionally. My eyes were already soaked on tears.

"Lynette, I knew you love me. But please, I love you too, dear. I love you, so I cannot let you to be just an ordinary girl. Lynette, this is my only wish.", he said. Puppy dog eyes. Pah.

"Please don't do this, Grandpa.", I begged.

"Lynette, my decision is final. I planned this for almost a year. I knew your parents would do the same. Do you want to thwart them?", he asked.

"No.", I answered.

"You do not want to disappoint them, do you?", he asked again.

"No, I don't want to.", I answered.

"Then go study there."

"I can't."

"For the kin of van Dross?", he asked.

"Grandpa-"

"If you really love me, you'll do what I want!", he said on his tyrant-voice.

Oh crap. I have to say yes. But I don't want to. But I'm suffering, right now, from conscience. I looked around for help. But I see nothing. All i can see was the purple curtains, the green-paint, the red carpet, the foods and drinks, and on the other end of the 20-people table, was my persuading grandfather.

"I accept.", I finally said, then I stood up and ran to my bathroom.
